Siemens to equip the LANXESS Butyl Rubber Plant in Singapore
with an integrated electrical distribution and automation solution

Siemens Singapore has been awarded a contract by LANXESS, the world’s biggest manufacturer of synthetic rubber to design, deliver and commission the automation system and the electrical distribution for LANXESS’s new Butyl Rubber production facility in Jurong Island, which is the most modern of its kind in Asia. Jurong Island is a petrochemical base that has attracted billions of dollars in foreign investment.

Intelligent protection and control devices within the electrical distribution on a common Profibus DP network will allow a fully integrated solution using the Distributed Control System SIMATIC PCS 7. This includes plant-wide Power Monitoring, Asset Management and an overall Emergency Shutdown concept up to the highest level of protection for process industries
of SIL 3.

The Siemens automation solution is designed for a straightforward integration of all package units on SIMATIC or other platforms, e.g. the central compressor trains supplied by Siemens AG Germany.

LANXESS is a leading specialty chemicals company with sales of EUR 5.06 billion in 2009 and currently around 14,400 employees in 23 countries. The company is represented at 42 production sites worldwide. The core business of LANXESS is the development, manufacturing and marketing of plastics, rubber, intermediates and specialty chemicals.
