Wireshark Officially Supports openSAFETY

openSAFETY is the first safety protocol to be officially supported by the leading network analysis tool Wireshark. Starting with Wireshark 1.6.0, all versions will feature an integrated openSAFETY dissector, a decoder for the analysis of individual openSAFETY frames.

The open source Wireshark software records the data traffic at network nodes. It can display the data in packages, allowing for their content to be examined and filtered. “With Wireshark, openSAFETY users have open access to a very powerful analysis tool“, says Stefan Schönegger, General Manager of the Ethernet POWERLINK Standardization Group (EPSG). “We welcome this step which further strengthens openSAFETY’s position as the first uniform safety standard for all Industrial Ethernet solutions.”

The openSAFETY dissector can be used both for openSAFETY over POWERLINK and openSAFETY over SERCOS III. Wireshark support for additional openSAFETY solutions over Modbus, EtherNet/IP, and PROFINET will follow soon.
