Following a development period of 1½ years, Beckhoff is unveiling the AM8000 motor series at November's SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011 show in Germany. The rotary synchronous servo motors, which are characterized by high dynamics and energy efficiency, feature the new single-cable technology, with which the power and feedback system are combined in one standard motor cable, which results in significant cost savings, since plug connectors and cables are eliminated at both the motor and the controller ends.
The AM8000 series encompasses six different motor sizes, each with two or three optional overall lengths, to provide a wide possible torque range. The user can select a motor suitable for universal use from a stall torque range of 0.9 to 65 Nm. Modern salient pole winding technology is used in the motor, which enables a high slot fill factor. And small end turns in conjunction with a fully encapsulated stator provide robustness and a high level of thermal management. Backlash-free permanent magnet holding brakes and low-backlash planetary gears are offered as options.
