Siemens to automate Baxter biologics plant

Siemens has announced the award of a multi-million dollar contract to supply the automation for the Singapore Recombinant plant of Baxter Bioscience Manufacturing. Under the terms of the contract, Siemens will provide basic and detailed engineering services and will deliver, install and commission the automation system, process instruments and motor control centers.

The company notes that its concept of Totally Integrated Automation with the PCS 7 process control system will allow tight integration of all devices and components, based on Profibus and industrial Ethernet communication.

Siemens’ client, Baxter International is expanding its existing Singapore manufacturing operations with the addition of a new bulk production facility for its Advate product, a recombinant factor VIII that is free of blood-based additives to meet the growing needs of people living with hemophilia A. It is anticipated that this investment will create approximately 230 new jobs at Baxter’s Singapore facility.
