Kontron Releases NEBS-compliant, Compact 3U, 20" Depth Platform

Kontron has introduced the storage and networking server FS3100, a versatile, multi-function 3U NEBS-compliant platform that is designed for mission critical streaming media, lawful interception and security/data storage applications. The Kontron FS3100 combines I/O capacity, storage adaptability, network port density and processor performance, all in a 3U, 20" depth platform. Kontron will present the FS3100 to equipment vendors at booth (2A28) during Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona, February 27 - March 1.

Packing more performance and versatility into a 20-inch, 3U commercial-off-the-shelf footprint solves many design and time-to-market issues for TEMs who need to deploy applications in space constraint networks. Designing applications on a single Kontron FS3100 - instead of multiple specialized servers - dramatically accelerates design cycles and reduces the overall cost of ownership.

The Kontron storage and networking server FS3100 is designed to be telco-ready from the ground up, and provides superior performance and functionality to capture, process and analyze massive amounts of data across telecom Central Office and carrier cloud computing environments. Other applicable applications include content insertion, analysis and storage for network optimization and localized ad-distribution in streaming media applications.

Designed to support dual socket six-core Intel Xeon Processors 5600 Series, Intel 5520 Chipset, and 12 x RDIMM/UDIMM memory slots (DDR3-800/1066/1333) for up to 96 GB memory, providing highly threaded applications a great number of available threads at a high performance per watt ratio and within a tight thermal power envelope. Customers benefit from an optimized total cost of ownership by reduced system count and energy consumption.

Extensive IO connectivity that supports multiple PCI E slots enabling the full performance of pre- and co-processing adapters and multiple 10GbE, InfiniBand and other network interfaces to seamlessly fit into network centric environments and provide improved transfer rates with minimal implementation effort and cost.

Multiple storage options including rotational and high performance SSD drives using 6Gb/s interfaces and a wide range of integrated and 3rd party SW/HW RAID options for fine tuning to optimize safety and transfer rates.
