Emerson Provides Automation in Bohai Bay Offshore Oil Field in China

-- Business & Technology News, 10 July 2009

Emerson Process Management has helped China prepare for startup of Bohai Bay Phase II oil production by engineering and commissioning PlantWeb digital architecture across six platforms and the Peng Bo floating production storage and off-loading vessel (FPSO), also called Hai Yang Shi You 117.
Emerson is engineering and installing PlantWeb digital automation architecture for process control and asset management and is integrating these with shutdown and fire and gas systems on each platform, on the FPSO, and across all facilities. Emerson’s DeltaV digital automation system is on each of the seven phase II facilities. The DeltaV system is the core resource for digital integration. It also provides centralized monitoring and human interface of the entire field from one platform, with the FPSO providing backup.
PlantWeb architecture will also network field instrumentation including Emerson’s Rosemount measurement instruments and Daniel metering systems. Emerson’s AMS Suite on each platform and FPSO will enable predictive diagnostics through continuous monitoring of field instrumentation, allowing personnel to detect and repair impending failures before they affect production.
"We are excited about the progress in digitally integrating this major oil field project to support the escalating manufacturing automation needs in China,” commented Steve Sonnenberg, president of Emerson Process Management. “We are serious about providing unparalleled support of our customers in China, and we look forward to exceeding the expectations of ConocoPhillips China and CNOOC for the development and sustained support of the major global facility.”
