Siemens Looks to Set Up Manufacturing Facility in Andhra Pradesh, India

Siemens AG, Europe’s largest engineering conglomerate, is looking to set up a manufacturing unit in Andhra Pradesh. According to Siemens, it has already explained its intent to the State Government.
“Siemens is looking at a unit to manufacture steam turbines and generators needed for the power sector. The officials from the company have had discussions with the officials concerned in the State Government and have also visited Achutapuram in Visakhapatnam district where they wish to procure around 150 acres for the unit,” an official source told Business Line here on Monday.
According to the letter that the company has written to the Andhra Pradesh Government, the unit will have the capacity to manufacture 150 MW steam turbines and also 20 MW to 500 MW generators.
“The plant is expected to come up in three phases with a total investment of Rs 950 crore and have a potential to employ around 2,000 people once the unit is fully commissioned. After the first phase it would generate employment to around 500 people,” the official said.
He added that the officials have sought time till end of July to give their final approval for the project. “They have informed that they are very keen that the project comes up in the State and have gone back to Germany to get an approval from the higher authorities concerned,” the official said.
According to the company’s website, in India, it holds leading positions in the three application fields - energy and environmental care/automation and control, industrial and public infrastructures/healthcare.
