Two cable insulation stripping tools from Weidmuller, the AM 16 and AM 6/10, sufficiently impressed the iF jury to win the prestigious design prize for 2008. The award – the iF label – is valid for the entire life cycle of the product. The decision of the iF jury was based on criteria that included design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, degree of innovation, environmental compatibility, functionality, ergonomics, visualization of use, safety, brand value/branding as well as universal design aspects.
The AM 16 model for round cables and the AMF 6/10 model for flat cables are precision tools that allow the user to remove a defined length of cable insulation without damaging the individual conductors.
Design details
Specially designed for use in tight spaces where the radii in which to work is limited, the AM 16’s wide cable guide facilitates making precise incisions in the insulation material, which particularly predestines the AM 16 for sequential insulation stripping. The user can begin stripping the insulation from the cable at any point the application dictates.
Although increasing use is being made of flat cables – especially in power distribution systems, according to Weidmuller, there has been no appropriate insulation stripping tool for this type of cable. The removable cable guide of the AMF 6/10 facilitates a straight and uniform incision in the insulation material – whilst keeping the risk of injury to a minimum.
The AMF 6/10 has been designed for 6 mm and 10 mm sq flat cables. It is possible to strip the cable insulation at any point required. The insulation itself can be split open either on the surface or on the edges. Once the incision has been made, users can split open the insulation using the integrated blade.
