IO-Link Open Standard Interface for Sensor Layer from Balluff

-- Product News, 20 February 2008

IO-Link, from Balluff, is claimed to be a breakthrough in sensor and actuator communication. IO-Link is a open standard interface that covers three features of automation technology: the ability to use the controller for setting parameters, the desire for more detailed and informative diagnostics, and access through an electrically and mechanically uniform interface.
According to Balluff, other benefits include advanced diagnostics and low cost standard three-core cabling, even for analogue applications. It is also compatible with existing fieldbus platforms such as PROFIBUS and DeviceNet.
