Lenze AC Inverter Drive Adds Profibus to Plug-In Communications Options

Lenze-AC Tech announces the release of the PROFIBUS-DP communication module, the fourth communication option for the SMVector drive, together with DeviceNet, CANopen and ModBus/RS485. According to company officials, the streamlined pop-in modules can be factory-installed or simply inserted into an already existing SMVector. As a result, the SMVector becomes compatible in almost every machine environment, and users can maintain their own communication preferences.
"Since its development in 1989, PROFIBUS has become the most commonly used fieldbus in manufacturing, with a greater than 60% share of the automation market in the European Union," says Darrow Hanesian, Director of Product Management at Lenze-AC Tech, and he adds, "As a global company, giving our customers choices for device communication is simply good business sense." Hanesian explains that one feature that makes PROFIBUS so successful is the fact that it allows the mainstream process to talk to upstream as well as to downstream devices. "Horizontal and vertical communication improves message transmission and greatly reduces physical installation requirements," says Hanesian.
