In 2007, Schneider Electric completed the acquisition of American Power Conversion (APC) and merged it with MGE UPS Systems to create what it called “a worldwide leader in the critical power and cooling services market”. The combined, 12,000 strong company, APC-MGE, now provides power solutions to a wide range of end-user markets, with offerings including UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems, power conditioning products, capacity management software, and power services.Huge opportunities“We want to see APC-MGE products ensuring availability wherever data is created, transmitted or stored – from the desktop to the data center to the factory floor,” announced George Kong, ASEAN Country General Manager, at a recent press conference in Singapore, and cited the US$18 billion power solutions market as a “huge opportunity” for the company. For data centers, Kong quoted studies that reveal power and cooling to be the single largest problem facing CIOs, with almost half of the IT budget being spent on energy.Already claiming the industry’s most comprehensive product and solution range, broadest service organization, and largest R&D spend, going forward, APC-MGE aims to be the top performing business unit within Schneider and the segment share leader in each entered market category, said Kong.
