2007 was a year of progress for OPC as a technology, and the OPC Foundation, technical contributors (including MatrikonOPC) spent a great deal of time developing Unifi ed Architecture (OPC UA) specifi cations and code. We will be the front-runner in enabling companies to see the OPC Foundation’s UA vision, and we foresee great things coming out of OPC UA in 2008.For 2008, innovation is a term that comes to mind. Many of Microsoft’s technologies are maturing (.NET frameworks, Web-service platforms etc) and thus becoming viable for vendors to deploy on. Typically, major technology changes fall in line with Microsoft’s OS releases, and with Server 2008 pending, many companies will be saying, “When we upgrade, we should take the opportunity to improve our optimization and automation applications.” It happened with Windows 2000, it happened with XP, the shift will occur now with Server 2008.
