A chance to find out how NI’s virtual i n s t r u m e n t a t i o n technology is being used for measurement, analysis and control in the rapidly expanding renewable energy industry attracted some 80 people to the company’s recent seminar on the subject in Singapore.
Presenter C K Chung, NI Area Sales Manager, pointed to global trends like peak oil that are driving the search for alternative sources of energy, and hence, opening up opportunities for companies like NI to be implement solutions for burgeoning sectors like biofuels, fuel cells, and solar energy.
NI recently worked with Singapore start-up Biofuel Research to automate its biofuel diesel production process using Compact FieldPoint controller hardware and LabVIEW software. The challenge was to develop a scalable automation platform for process control from lab/pilot plant setup all the way to industrial plant. According to Biofuel Research, the NI solution is reliable, scalable, and allows for full control over the source code.
Other successful solutions detailed during the half-day seminar, all delivered using NI technology, included a fuel cell test system, a control and monitoring system for fuel cell gas supply, and a solar panel performance analysis system.
