Yokogawa has been awarded the contract from Shell Eastern Petroleum (SEPL) to supply control and safety systems plus instrumentation for the Shell Eastern Petrochemicals Complex (SEPC) expansion in Singapore.At the SEPC, which is on Singapore’s Jurong and Bukom islands, SEPL is constructing a new petrochemical plant, which will annually produce 800 thousand tons of ethylene and 750 thousand tons of mono-ethylene glycol, and upgrading an existing petroleum refinery with a refining capacity of 500 thousand bpd.The petrochemical plant will be fully integrated with the refinery and the integrated complex is scheduled to start operation by 2010.Teruyoshi Minaki, Executive Vice President of the International Business Headquarters, said, “We were awarded as Main Automation Contractor because we have the ability to improve the operability and safety of large-scale plants by integrating their production control and safety instrumented systems.“In addition, Shell values our ability to propose solutions from the user’s perspective, and our worldwide maintenance service system. Through our implementation of these control systems for the SEPC, we will strengthen our relationship with Shell. We aim to increase orders by proposing solutions to users.”Yokogawa plans to deliver the control systems using the latest FOUNDATION fieldbus technology for the upgrade and expansion projects by December 2008.
