Held in a different location once every two years, it was the turn of Kuala Lumpur to host the 2007 Honeywell Process Solutions User Group Symposium for Southeast Asia. The threeday event attracted over 100 customers from client companies including Petronas, Shell, Talisman, and Conoco Philips.For users, it was an opportunity to see some of the latest technology for the process sector, to share experiences, and to quiz Honeywell executives and technical staff.Two key presentations from Honeywell were “HPS Technology Update and Roadmap” by Marketing Director Jason Urso, and “OneWireless” by Asheesh Arora, Asia Pacifi c Leader, Field Solutions.Urso took the audience on a tour of the company’s product portfolio, which includes solutions for plant simulation, manufacturing execution, advanced control, and process parameter measurement. “Our goal is to deliver safety, reliability, effi ciency to the process plant,’” said Urso.With so much attention on new industrial wireless solutions, Asheesh Arora’s presentation on Honeywell’s OneWireless was eagerly awaited. He was keen to stress the fact that the company has considerable experience of wireless technology, in particular wireless fi eld instruments with the prescient launch in 2003 of the XYR 5000 transmitter.He also explained how the company has managed to tackle some of the common obstacles to effective wireless in the plant, such as security, reliability, and battery life.For the user side, delegates had a chance to hear about implementation experiences from Honeywell clients in oil & gas, petrochemical and power industries in Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia. Topics covered included safety systems, advanced process control, and alarm management.The User Group Symposium also afforded a chance for Honeywell partner companies to show off their latest solutions. Partners in attendance included MTL Instruments, PAS, Pepperl+Fuchs, Turck, and Vector Infotech. Representatives from the Petronas refinery in Malacca.
