ABB has chosen to site its new Marine Academy, offering training for the oil and gas marine industry, in Singapore. The academy was unveiled on July 5 at ABB Singapore’s headquarters by Fred Kindle, ABB CEO, and Manohar Khiatani, Assistant Managing Director, Industry Development, Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB).
“ABB is well positioned to benefit from the growth in the oil and gas marine sector,” said Kindle. “Singapore’s importance as a global trade hub, its outstanding infrastructure and proximity to the fast-growing Asian talent pool make it an ideal location for the new Marine Academy.”
“We are very proud that Singapore has been chosen to house the new Marine Academy, It will complement ABB’s recently inaugurated Global Center of Competence for Drilling Drives Systems in Singapore” said James Foo, President and Country Manager of ABB in Singapore.”
The oil and gas marine business is growing strongly. Offshore rig construction, for example, is expanding at the fastest pace in more than 20 years. Singapore holds 70 percent of this market and the Academy is expected to train more than 400 crew members from all over the world every year. Most course participants will be trained for work on offshore rigs, LNG vessels and tankers.
