Honeywell Wins Accolade for Field Device Manager

Honeywell has received a Plant Engineering magazine Product of the Year award for its Field Device Manager solution. The magazine, published by Reed Business Information in the US, picked Field Device Manager, a key component of Honeywell’s plant asset management portfolio, as the top product of 2006 in the maintenance software category
“Our readers vote on the Product of the Year awards, and we know they understand the importance of improving plant uptime and reducing maintenance costs,” said Bob Vavra, editor, Plant Engineering. “Plant Engineering is pleased to recognize the newest version of Field Device Manager with the Product of the Year Gold award in this category.”
Field Device Manager, which is fully integrated with Honeywell’s Experion Process Knowledge System (PKS) platform, helps plant personnel spot malfunctioning devices within their facilities more easily. Field Device Manager enables proactive plant maintenance by providing predictive diagnostics of HART-based smart devices from any vendor. It enables higher productivity by allowing users to manage, monitor and change configurations for a large number of HART and Profibus protocol-based devices.
Honeywell recently announced the release of Field Device Manager R301, the first system to support both the latest Electronic Device Description Language (EDDL) and Field Device Tool (FDT) with Device Type Manager (DTM) technologies without the use of conversion tools or add-on devices. Field Device Manager R301allows customers access to better diagnostics to prevent downtime caused by sensor or actuator failures, and reduce maintenance costs through predictive maintenance diagnostics.
“Unplanned shutdowns can have a serious impact on a plant’s operations, and therefore, a company’s overall business performance,” said Jason Urso, marketing director for Honeywell Process Solutions. “Field Device Manager is a critical piece of the puzzle because it can help operators stay in front of potential problems within their plants. The operators can then focus on productivity instead of recovering from a shutdown.”
