An opportunity to share experience, get an update on technology trends, and explore new applications. That is why the annual Solution Day event held by automation supplier Advantech is worth attending, said David Soon, Regional Managing Director, Advantech South Asia Pacific, at the opening of Solution Day 2007 in Singapore.
An established event on the regional calendar, Solution Day reverted this year to its traditional format of presentations from Advantech staff and partners plus display booths of latest products.
From Microsoft, John Boladian, Senior Marketing Manager, Windows Embedded, noted that 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the Windows CE embedded platform. And referring to an “amazing opportunity”, he said that that in 2009, the embedded market would number 2.3 billion devices, a doubling in just five years. Some characteristics of the devices: highly programmable; user-interface rich; always connected (M2M); and 32-bit MMU CPU architecture.
Also pointing out an anniversary – 30 Years in Embedded, in this case – was Eddie Toh, presenting on behalf of Intel Asia Pacific. Technology trends, said Toh, include increased integration, greater complexity, and blurring of boundaries between “embedded” and the “enterprise” – airport ticketing kiosks being a good example.
Presentation topics delivered by Advantech staff covered Industrial Ethernet solutions, SHB Express Industrial Computing Platforms, and System-On Modules Design-in Services. And exhibition booths allowed delegates to get up close and personal with the latest Advantech technology in embedded, industrial computing, networking, and for verticals such as the growing medical computing field.
