ADVANTECH: Fast, robust Ethernet switch

-- 1 June 2007

An eight-port industrial Ethernet switch with 2 Gb fiber optic/copper combo ports, the EKI-7629C from Advantech also comes with an IP30 metal housing and has 3000 VDC surge protection for the power line, plus 4000 VDC ESD protection on the Ethernet ports. The robust Ethernet switch can handle heavy loading, even in harsh industrial environments, and provides wide and long-distance uplink that transmits data up to 110 km at gigabit speeds

With fast Ethernet ports for connecting up to eight devices to the Ethernet through simple plug-and-play, the EKI-7629C also supports SFP connectors (small form-factor pluggable), also known as mini-GBIC.

By swapping out different SFP’s, system engineers can enjoy flexibility in designing the network architecture, especially when multiple different optical technologies are in use, or when there is future expansion of the network. This lowers the cost of the base system on purchasing and maintenance, and provides engineers more room in design.
