The biennial EMO, the world’s biggest international trade fair for the metalworking industries, takes place later this year in Hannover, Germany, from September 17 to 22. As Helmut Monschaw, Executive Director of VDW, the German Machine Tool Builders’ Association, which co-organizes the event along with Deutsche Messe, outlined in a special press conference in Singapore, so far more than 1,500 exhibitors from 36 countrieshave already booked space at the show.

As well as metal cutting and forming machine tools, on display will be automation systems and components, software and control technology for the production process, and measuring, testing, and quality management systems.

With EMO traditionally being the place where new approaches and technologies are seen for the fi rst time, Monschaw highlighted some of the key trends and developments in the sector. These include monitoring systems that deliver real-time data on the status of machines and components, facilitating preventive maintenance and enabling manufacturers to enhance the range of services they offer, and reconfigurable machine tools that can rapidly adapted to changing manufacturing requirements.
